HTTP Notice:
ICEreader™ SDK
is primarily intended to view static content from a local file system, thus,
it does not include ICEsoft's HTTP protocol implementation. However, web content
may still be accessed via HTTP using the JVM's HTTP protocol implementation.
The ICEbrowser™ SDK product is better suited for projects requiring
robust HTTP support. The ICEbrowser package includes an enhanced HTTP (and
optionally HTTPS) protocol implementation which provide the following benefits
over a standard JVM HTTP implementation:
- Cookie
support: Full support for sites that require cookies, including sites that
implement a login as well as web stores and shopping sites.
- Caching
support: Reduces requests made to the original server resulting in better
performance
- Authentication:
Proxy and web authentication are supported using basic or digest schemes.
- Memory
usage: Lower and more efficient use of memory.
- Robustness:
ICEsoft's HTTP implementation retries connections under many different error
conditions and attempts to repair malformed responses.
- Persistent
Connections: Streamlines the use of connections to the server, reducing
network load and load time.
- HTTPS:
Secure HTTP encrypts the request and response so that intercepted information
cannot be read (optional addition to the ICEbrowser product).
